On the last day of August, I felt compelled to leave a record. The previous day was especially lonely and heavy. There was unusually much housework to do, and everything felt quietly miserable. I left a long message after a long time, missed someone deeply, and nearly cried while chewing sushi. There was relief in simply feeling that someone was beside me. For the first time, I did not watch the back of the departing bus. Homesickness, loneliness, separation anxiety—whatever it was, it made me wonder whether some feelings are only believed once they are proven through sacrifice. And yet I realized that days like this, when imagination briefly becomes reality, are sometimes necessary for loneliness itself to feel reassured. I came home, sat in the bathroom, and made a phone call for thirteen minutes. Even through the voice on the line, I could feel maturity settling in. It is embarrassing to admit, but I missed my younger sibling. Today’s loneliness made me promise myself that I need to hold many things close again.
